A Song For While I'm Away
Wow--it has been awhile since I've been here, hasn't it? Look how dusty the place is. Disgraceful. And shocking.
Busy, busy, busy. No excuses for this level of neglect, but...still. I haven't been entirely idle in the gap between this blog and last. I did another round of edits with my incredibly talented editor on Passing Strange. I wrote my first ever Generation Dead short story (well, unless you count Tommy's entire blog), which will be published in an anthology before too long (more on that later), AND I also finished another novel with the working title of Shiny Happy People. I'll let you know up front that this book is 100% zombie-free and is not part of the Generation Dead series.
And you know what?
I really, really like it. I think you will, too.
And books! We've got some books coming out this year, too. Check these release dates out:
March 25 Generacion Dead The first book I've written that I can't read!
May 4 Kiss of Life paperback, which includes a ultra-exclusive sneak peak of Passing Strange!
June 1 Passing Strange U.S. edition, which includes the ultra-exclusive entire text of Passing Strange! Wow!
July 8 Passing Strange U.K. edition, which includes the entire text of the book with bonus alternate spellings! With a special variant cover! The image of which I will post if anyone wants to see it!
Whew, that's a lot going on. I also tried to get Disney to do a special three-in-one gwp (gift-with-purchase) edition of the three books, but it didn't fly. I had suggested that the GWP be a wheel of fine aged cheese, but they politely thanked me for my idea and went to the next item on the agenda. Cheese doesn't really have anything to do with the books(I decided to cut out a scene where Takayuki and Skip Slydell discover that the secret of the zombies' return from death is linked to a particular brand of smoked Gouda found only in little roadside shops in upstate Vermont, for various reasons): I just like cheese.

U.K. Kiss
Purple is the new black, btw.
Kiss of Life is available for preorder at fine online retailers everywhere. Sometimes it is listed as being Generation Dead: Kiss of Life. Sometimes it is listed as being The Kiss of Life. Usually it is listed as being by "Dan Waters" instead of "Daniel Waters". Sometimes it is listed as Repairing Toasters and other Useful Household Appliances, 3rd. Ed, by Samuel J. Lemonrind. We're working on it, okay?
Early May for the U.S. release, early July for the U.K. release.

Keep an Eye on Summer
I'm having some trouble coalescing my thoughts for "Under the Influence, Part III" and didn't think anyone would be interested in reading the ten pages I'd written thus far. What is a blog, anyhow? Is it entertainment? Information? Infotainment? Edutainment? Entermation? Mindless blather? A masochistic form of therapy? None of the above?
I'll edit, and post. In the meantime, some interesting bits of Generation Dead infoedutaintionment available on the web:

An interesting website which breaks down some of the tropes in GD, TV Tropes. Many books and movies are discussed on the site and it would probably be useful for completing homework assignments or possibly broadening one's reading/viewing pleasure. Warning: Mild Spoilers: here.
The website of CJ Bott, Bulliesinbooks.com. Ms. Bott is an educational consultant who "uses literature to start the discussion on bullying." I was honored that she selected GD for reasons I've written about elsewhere in the blog. You can check it out here.
The first review from across the pond, that I'm aware of anyhow, at TheBookbag.co.uk. I absolutely swooned when the reviewer said that the style "is kitchen sink drama with humour." Read ithere.
Speaking of the the U.K. (which I often do, and with great respect), rumour (note special pandering U.K spelling) has it that Generation Dead will appear there in full flower (ahem) on July 7.

A Rose for Phoebe
Here's the sweet Simon & Schuster cover for the U.K. edition of Generation Dead. The cover calls to mind a story I recently reread, William Faulkner's A Rose for Emily. In A Rose for Emily, Emily is in love with a guy who is dead. In Generation Dead, Phoebe might be falling in love with a guy who is dead.
Note: Only one of the two dead guys mentioned in these stories is a zombie.
